.or.ke Domains for Non-profits in Kenya
The Kenyan address for NGOs, community groups, churches and foundations.
How much does an .or.ke domain cost?
The short answer: An .or.ke domain costs KES 1,000 a year at NairoHost. It is the Kenyan extension KENIC sets aside for non-profit organisations such as NGOs, community-based organisations, churches and foundations. Registration is restricted, so the registry may ask for proof that your organisation is registered before the domain is approved.

Who qualifies for an .or.ke domain?
.or.ke is for organisations that do not trade for profit. That typically covers NGOs, community-based organisations, faith-based organisations and churches, foundations, associations and similar groups.
A business, even a small one, belongs on .co.ke instead. If your organisation also runs a trading arm, consider giving that business its own .co.ke.
What should we have ready before registering?
Because .or.ke is restricted, the registry may ask you to show that the organisation exists and is non-profit. Have your organisation's official registration details to hand, in its legal name, before you start.
Register the domain in the organisation's name, not a staff member's or a volunteer's. People move on, and a domain registered to someone who has left is a common way for an NGO to lose control of its website and email.
Can we use our .or.ke domain for email?
Yes. Staff and volunteers can have addresses like info@yourorganisation.or.ke, which reads as more trustworthy to donors and partners than a free email address.
Create shared addresses such as programmes@ or finance@ for roles, so the mail stays with the organisation when a person leaves.
What should an NGO or church website include?
Most non-profit sites need the same core pages: who you are and where you work, your programmes, how to donate or get involved, recent reports or news, and a way to contact you.
Donors and partners check these before they commit, so keep your registration details, leadership and latest annual report easy to find.
How do we register an .or.ke domain?
Have the name you want and the organisation's registration details ready.
-
Search for the name
Type the name into the domain search and pick .or.ke. Short names and common abbreviations of your organisation work best.
-
Check out in the organisation's name
Use the organisation's legal name and an email address it controls, then pay by M-Pesa.
-
Provide proof if asked
If the registry asks for proof that the organisation is registered, send it promptly. The domain is approved once that check is complete.
-
Point it at your website and email
Use our nameservers if your hosting is with us, or add DNS records for a host elsewhere. DNS changes can take a few hours to show everywhere.
