A server connected to the internet
The situation

What do Tech Startups & SaaS need from a website?

A startup needs two things online from day one: a product website that explains what it does, and servers that can run the product itself. Early on, both can be small. What matters is being able to grow without rebuilding everything, and paying for infrastructure in a currency the business earns in.

Kenya's digital economy keeps expanding. The KNBS Economic Survey 2026 reported that information and communication grew 4.8 per cent in 2025, and KNBS figures in the Gross County Product 2025 report put internet use in Nairobi at 64.7 per cent of people aged three and over. Products built for Kenyan users have a growing, connected audience.

We offer VPS hosting with root access for custom stacks, dedicated servers when you need a whole machine, and shared or Corporate Hosting for the marketing site and business email. Every plan includes a free SSL certificate, billing is in shillings with M-Pesa, and support is available 24/7 in English and Swahili.

Common problems

What usually goes wrong?

Shared hosting limits your stack

Node.js services, background workers and custom software need server access that ordinary shared hosting does not give.

Foreign card billing

Cloud providers bill in dollars on a card, so costs move with the exchange rate and a declined card can take services offline.

The marketing site is an afterthought

Founders focus on the product while the public website, docs and company email are left on free tools that look unfinished.

  1. Size the first server

Pick a VPS for the product based on expected users, and start small with room to resize.

  2. Put the website on hosting

Host the landing page and email on shared hosting so product deploys never take it down.

  3. Deploy and secure

Set up your stack, firewall and SSL, and keep secrets out of the repository.

  4. Scale with usage

Move to a bigger VPS or a dedicated server as traffic and data grow.

Questions

Tech Startups & SaaS: questions answered

Should the product run on shared hosting or a VPS?
A simple PHP web app with modest traffic can run on shared hosting, which has a PHP memory limit of 256 MB. Products that need Node.js services, queues, custom daemons or specific database versions are better on a VPS, where you control the software. Many startups keep the marketing site on shared hosting and the app on a VPS.
Can I pay for servers without a card?
Yes. Hosting, VPS and dedicated servers are priced in Kenyan shillings and can be paid by M-Pesa, so a declined card or a moving exchange rate never interrupts service. Invoices are issued in the company's name.
Who manages the VPS?
A VPS gives your team root access to install and maintain the software stack, including security updates. If you would rather not manage servers, Corporate Hosting runs PHP applications and websites without server administration on your side.
How do backups work on a VPS?
On a VPS your team is responsible for backing up application data and databases, usually with scheduled dumps copied to separate storage. Corporate Hosting includes daily backups for websites hosted there. Decide on a backup routine before launch, not after the first incident.
Is there an uptime commitment?
We aim for 99.9 per cent uptime and monitor our infrastructure around the clock. Section 7 of our Terms of Service explains what that covers. For products that cannot tolerate any downtime, plan redundancy across more than one server.
Where can I get technical help?
Support is available 24/7 in English and Swahili for hosting, servers, domains and email. Application code and deployment pipelines remain your team's responsibility.
