An EPP code, also called an auth code or transfer key, is a unique password that authorises a domain transfer between registrars. Without it, no transfer can begin.
Where to Find It
The code lives in the control panel of the registrar where your domain is currently registered.
- Log in to your current registrar account.
- Open the management page for the domain.
- Unlock the domain if it shows as locked.
- Look for a button or link labelled "EPP code", "Auth code", "Transfer key", or "Get authorization code".
- The code is usually shown on screen or emailed to the registrant address.
Notes for .ke Domains
For .co.ke and other .ke domains managed through KENIC, the auth code may not be displayed in every panel by default. If you cannot find it, request it from your current registrar's support team. They are required to provide it to you as the domain holder.
Keep It Safe
- Treat the code like a password and do not share it publicly.
- The code expires or can be regenerated, so request a fresh one shortly before transferring.
- If WHOIS privacy is on, disable it first, since some registrars hide the option behind privacy settings.
Once you have the code, you can start a transfer to NairoHost and enter it when prompted. If your registrar refuses to release the code, that is a violation of your rights as the registrant. Contact NairoHost support on WhatsApp at +254 796 358081 for guidance.
