Transferring a domain to NairoHost puts management, renewals, and hosting in one place. The process differs slightly between international domains like .com and local .ke domains.

Before You Start

  • The domain must be at least 60 days old. Newly registered or recently transferred domains are locked by registry rules.
  • Unlock the domain at your current registrar.
  • Obtain the EPP or auth code, which acts as a transfer password.
  • Disable WHOIS privacy if it is active, since the transfer system needs to read your contact email.

Steps to Transfer

  1. Start a transfer order on the NairoHost website and enter the domain name.
  2. Provide the EPP or auth code when prompted.
  3. Pay for the transfer. For most extensions this also adds one year to the registration.
  4. Approve the transfer email sent to the registrant address.
  5. Wait for the losing registrar to release the domain.

Timing

| Domain type | Typical transfer time | |-------------|----------------------| | .com, .net, .org | 5 to 7 days | | .co.ke, .ke | 1 to 3 days |

Your website and email keep working during the transfer as long as you do not change DNS or nameservers. Only after the transfer completes should you point the domain to ns1.nairohost.site and ns2.nairohost.site if you also moved hosting.
