Your WHOIS record holds the contact details tied to your domain. Keeping it accurate ensures you receive renewal reminders, transfer approvals, and registry verifications. Outdated details can cause a lost domain.
What to Keep Current
- Registrant name
- Email address, since most notices go here
- Phone number
- Postal or physical address
How to Update
- Sign in to the account where the domain is registered, for NairoHost at my.nairohost.site.
- Open the domain and find the contact or WHOIS settings.
- Edit the registrant, admin, and technical contacts as needed.
- Save the changes and confirm any verification email.
Important Rules
- Some changes trigger a verification email you must click to confirm.
- Changing the registrant email may start a short transfer lock on certain extensions.
- For .co.ke and other .ke domains, updates flow through KENIC, so allow a little time for them to take effect.
After Updating
Run a WHOIS lookup on the NairoHost site to confirm the new details appear. If you have domain privacy enabled, the public record still shows proxy details, but your real contact information is updated behind it.
Make a habit of reviewing your WHOIS details once a year, especially the email address. An old or abandoned email is the most common reason owners miss expiry warnings and lose their domains. If you cannot edit a field or hit an error, contact NairoHost through the /contact page.
