How to Migrate a Large Website Without Hitting Limits

Practical methods to move a large website or database to NairoHost when normal upload limits and timeouts get in the way.

Large sites with gigabytes of files or big databases need a different approach than a simple plugin export. These methods avoid upload limits and timeouts.

Move Files Efficiently

Use FTP, Not the Browser

Connect with FileZilla over FTP to transfer thousands of files reliably. Browser uploads time out on large batches.

Compress First

On the old host, create a single ZIP of public_html via cPanel File Manager, transfer that one file, then extract it on NairoHost. Moving one big file is far faster than many small ones.

Move Large Databases

A database too big for phpMyAdmin's import limit needs another route:

  • Export it as a compressed .sql.gz from the old host
  • Upload it and ask support to import it via the command line, which has no size cap
  • Or split the export into smaller files

Watch Inode and Disk Limits

Large sites with many small files can hit inode limits even with space to spare. Before migrating:

  • Delete caches, old backups, and unused media
  • Confirm your NairoHost plan comfortably fits the file count

Let Us Do the Heavy Lifting

For large or complex sites, use the free migration service. Open a ticket via the /contact page with your old host's cPanel login, and our team moves everything server-to-server, which is the fastest method of all.

Tip: Always migrate to a temporary URL and test thoroughly before switching DNS, so a large site never goes live half-migrated.
