How to Migrate a Static HTML Website

A simple guide to moving a static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript website to cPanel hosting using FTP or the File Manager.

A static website has no database, so migration is just a matter of copying files into the right folder. This is the easiest kind of site to move.

Download Your Existing Files

  1. Connect to your old host over FTP or open its File Manager.
  2. Download the entire web root, usually called public_html, htdocs, or www.
  3. Keep the folder structure intact so links to images and stylesheets keep working.

Upload to cPanel

  1. Log in to your new cPanel and open the File Manager.
  2. Navigate to public_html.
  3. Upload your files, or use FTP for large numbers of files.

Make sure your home page is named index.html or index.htm so the server serves it automatically.

Verify Paths and Links

Static sites often break when paths are case-sensitive on the new server:

  • Confirm filenames match exactly, including capital letters.
  • Use relative paths for assets where possible.
  • Check that subfolders kept their original names.
public_html/
  index.html
  about.html
  css/style.css
  images/logo.png

Preview and Go Live

  1. Test the site through a temporary URL or your local hosts file before changing DNS.
  2. Confirm every page, image, and download works.
  3. Point the domain to ns1.nairohost.site and ns2.nairohost.site.
  4. Enable the free SSL certificate so the site loads over HTTPS.

Because there is no database or server-side code, a static site is usually live within minutes of the upload finishing, with DNS propagation being the only real wait.
