Parking a domain, also called an alias, makes a second domain display the exact same website as your main domain. It is useful when you own multiple spellings or extensions, such as .co.ke and .com, and want them all to land on one site.
Parked Domain vs Addon Domain
It is important not to confuse the two:
- A parked domain (alias) shows the same content as your main site.
- An addon domain hosts a completely separate website.
If you want both names to show the same site, park the domain. If you want a different site, use an addon domain instead.
How to Park a Domain
- Register the domain you want to park.
- Point it to ns1.nairohost.site and ns2.nairohost.site at your registrar.
- Log in to cPanel and open the Domains section.
- Choose Create A New Domain and enter the domain.
- Tick the option to share the document root with your main domain, or select Aliases if your cPanel uses that menu.
- Click Submit.
Verifying the Alias
After DNS propagates, visit the parked domain. It should display your main website. If it shows a default page, the nameservers may still be updating or the document root was not shared.
Common Use Cases
- Protecting your brand by owning several extensions.
- Catching common misspellings of your domain.
- Consolidating an old domain onto a new site.
