If you use Google Workspace for email, your domain's MX records must point to Google's mail servers. This routes all incoming mail to Workspace instead of your hosting server.
Remove Old MX Records
Before adding Google's records, delete any existing MX records in the cPanel Zone Editor so mail is not sent to the wrong server.
Add the Google MX Record
Modern Google Workspace setups use a single MX record:
- Open Zone Editor and click Manage beside your domain.
- Click + Add Record and choose MX Record.
- Set Priority to 1.
- Set Destination to smtp.google.com.
- Click Add Record.
| Priority | Destination | | -------- | ----------- | | 1 | smtp.google.com |
Some accounts created earlier may instead require the five legacy records (aspmx.l.google.com and the alt mail servers). Use whichever set the Google Admin console instructs for your account.
Update Email Routing
In cPanel, open Email Routing for the domain and set it to Remote Mail Exchanger. This ensures the server forwards mail to Google rather than trying to deliver it locally.
Verify Delivery
After propagation, check the MX record:
dig yourdomain.com MX +short
Send a test email from an outside account to a Workspace mailbox. If it does not arrive, confirm the old MX records were removed and that email routing is set to remote.
