Once your hosting is active, you need to place your website files on the server. The two most common methods are the cPanel File Manager and an FTP client. Both put your files in the public_html folder.

Method 1: cPanel File Manager

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Open File Manager under the Files section.
  3. Navigate to the public_html folder.
  4. Click Upload and select your files.
  5. If you uploaded a .zip archive, select it and click Extract.

Method 2: FTP with FileZilla

For larger sites, an FTP client is faster. Use the FTP details from your welcome email or create an FTP account in cPanel.

Host: yourdomain.co.ke
Username: your_ftp_user
Password: your_ftp_password
Port: 21

Connect, then drag your files into the public_html folder.

Important Notes

  • Your homepage file should be named index.html or index.php.
  • Place all public website files inside public_html, not above it.
  • Set correct file permissions if a page fails to load.

After Uploading

  1. Visit your domain to confirm the site loads.
  2. Test internal links and images.
  3. Clear your browser cache if you see an old version.
