How to Increase Your Email Mailbox Quota

Raise the storage limit on a full mailbox from the Email Accounts tool in cPanel, or free up space if you are near the cap.

· Updated · 2,263 views

Each mailbox has a storage quota. When it fills up, new mail bounces and recipients see a "mailbox full" error. You can raise the quota in cPanel if your plan has space available.

Increase the Quota

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Email Accounts.
  2. Find the account in the list and click Manage.
  3. Scroll to Storage Space (or Allocated Storage).
  4. Enter a new limit in MB, or select Unlimited if your plan allows it.
  5. Click Update Email Settings to save.

If You Cannot Increase It

Your account quotas are limited by your overall hosting disk space. If the server is near capacity:

  • Free up space by deleting large or old emails.
  • Empty the Trash and Junk folders in webmail.
  • Archive important mail to your computer.
  • Consider upgrading your hosting plan for more disk space.

Check Usage

The Email Accounts list shows each mailbox's used and allocated storage, so you can see which accounts need attention.

Tips

  • Set quotas per account rather than unlimited, so one mailbox cannot consume all your hosting space.
  • IMAP keeps everything on the server, so heavy IMAP users fill quotas faster.
