How to Recover Deleted Emails in Webmail

Restore accidentally deleted messages from the Trash folder in Roundcube or Horde, and learn what to do if it is empty.

If you deleted an email by mistake, there is often a way to get it back. The first place to check is the Trash folder in webmail.

Recover from Trash

  1. Log in to webmail at yourdomain.com/webmail.
  2. Open the Trash (or Deleted Items) folder.
  3. Find the message you want to restore.
  4. In Roundcube, drag it to the Inbox, or use More > Move to > Inbox.
  5. In Horde, select the message and choose Move to the Inbox.

If Trash Is Empty

Once Trash is emptied, recovery becomes difficult. Try these options:

  • Check other devices or mail clients. With IMAP, the message may still exist on a device that has not synced the deletion.
  • Look in the Junk or Archive folders in case it was moved rather than deleted.
  • Check whether your hosting includes backups that can be restored.

Prevent Future Loss

  • Do not empty Trash until you are sure.
  • Use IMAP so messages remain on the server across devices.
  • Keep important mail in a dedicated folder rather than the Inbox.
