· Updated · 2,983 views

If a mailbox password is forgotten or compromised, you can reset it from cPanel in seconds. Remember to update every device that uses the account afterward.

Reset the Password

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Email Accounts.
  2. Find the account and click Manage.
  3. Scroll to the Security section.
  4. Enter a new password, or click Generate for a strong random one.
  5. Click Update Email Settings to save.

After Resetting

The new password takes effect immediately. You must update it everywhere the account is configured:

  • Webmail (no change needed; just log in with the new password)
  • Outlook, Apple Mail, or other desktop clients
  • The mail app on your phone or tablet

Until you update each device, those clients will fail to send and receive and may repeatedly prompt for a password.

Security Tips

  • Use a unique, strong password of at least 12 characters.
  • Reset immediately if you suspect the account was compromised.
  • Avoid reusing passwords across mailboxes.
