An email forwarder sends a copy of every message received at one address to another address. It is useful for routing role addresses like info@ to a personal inbox without maintaining a separate mailbox.
Create a Forwarder
- Log in to cPanel and open Forwarders under the Email section.
- Click Add Forwarder.
- Enter the address to forward (for example, sales).
- Select your domain from the dropdown.
- Choose Forward to Email Address and enter the destination address.
- Click Add Forwarder to save.
Forward an Entire Domain
To send all mail for a domain to another domain, use Add Domain Forwarder instead. This is handy when consolidating addresses after a rebrand.
Things to Know
- A forwarder does not store mail; it only passes it along. If the destination is invalid, messages bounce.
- You can point a forwarder to a Gmail or other external address.
- Forwarders can sometimes trip spam filters at the destination because the original sender is preserved. Combine forwarding with a properly configured SPF record to reduce this.
Forwarding vs a Mailbox
If you need to send replies from the address, create a full email account instead, since a forwarder alone cannot send mail. You can combine both: keep a mailbox and add a forwarder for a second copy.
