M-Pesa is the most popular way to pay for hosting in Kenya, but it is a push payment, so true automatic charging works differently from cards. Here is how to keep renewals smooth.
Understanding M-Pesa and Auto-Renew
Card payments can be charged automatically, but M-Pesa requires you to approve each payment on your phone. That means you confirm a prompt rather than the system silently charging you. This is actually safer, since you stay in control of every shilling.
The Smoothest Setup
- Enable auto-renew in the client area so invoices generate early
- Keep your phone number and email current so the STK push and reminders reach you
- When the renewal invoice arrives, choose M-Pesa, enter your number, and approve the prompt
Step-by-Step M-Pesa Payment
- Open the unpaid invoice in Billing → My Invoices
- Select M-Pesa as the payment method
- Confirm your Safaricom number
- Approve the STK push prompt on your phone, or use the Paybill shown
- The invoice marks as paid automatically once confirmed
If Payment Does Not Reflect
Wait a few minutes, as confirmation can lag. If it still shows unpaid, keep your M-Pesa SMS confirmation and contact billing with the transaction code.
Tip: Pay as soon as the reminder arrives rather than on the expiry day, so any delay in M-Pesa confirmation does not lead to a suspension.
