When you move to a higher hosting plan in the middle of a billing cycle, you are not charged the full price of the new plan immediately. Instead, the system calculates a prorated amount for the days remaining before your next renewal.
How Proration Is Calculated
The upgrade charge covers only the price difference for the unused portion of your current cycle:
- Find the daily price difference between the old and new plan.
- Multiply it by the number of days left until your next due date.
- That prorated amount becomes the upgrade invoice; VAT is then added.
Old plan: KES 1,500/month
New plan: KES 3,000/month
Difference: KES 1,500/month
Days remaining: 15 of 30
Prorated charge = 1,500 x (15 / 30) = KES 750 + VAT
What Happens at Next Renewal
- Your next renewal invoice is generated at the full new plan price.
- Your billing due date stays the same; only the amount changes.
- Downgrades usually take effect at the next renewal rather than mid-cycle, so no proration credit is issued.
Paying the Upgrade
The prorated invoice is payable immediately so the upgrade can be applied, usually within minutes for shared hosting. Pay it with M-Pesa, card, or bank transfer like any other invoice. If you expected proration but were charged the full amount, contact support via the /contact page with your invoice number for a review.
